Public health warns backyard Poultry producers that Lassen county has been linked to the multi-state outbreak. On July 13th 48 states reported over 500 salmonella cases leading to over 90 hospitalizations and 2 deaths. If you tend to your backyard chickens or ducks public health officials say you can easily avoid contracting salmonella by washing your hands after handling the animals or anything in their environment, avoiding eating or drinking around your flock, as well as not bringing inside any clothing worn around your poultry. You can learn more about the outbreak by visiting the CDC.gov website.
