Sierra County Forest Service says campgrounds are on schedule to open by Memorial Day weekend. Tree injury and mortality has been contributing to the delay in opening of some campgrounds throughout the forest but Ramshorn campgrounds and other were confirmed ready, while Union Flat has yet to have a determined opening date. The Forest service reported to the Sierra County board of Supervisors that more funding and current forest cleanup projects are in their initial stages as Acting Sierraville District Ranger, Rachel Hutchinson, said they were gearing up for a bunch of fuel reduction work, focusing primarily on hazard trees with a long term focus on tree removal.
