PG&E expands their enhanced powerline safety settings across over 25 thousand miles of its distribution lines in high fire threat areas. This technology means when a storm blows a tree branch onto a line the system will automatically shut off power to that line within a tenth of a second upon contact. The pilot program last year reduced reportable ignitions that could have led to more wildfires. This is part of PG&Es 2022 wildfire prevention plan, and overall goal of zero utility-caused wildfire initiative.
