FEMA has designated Loyalton to be fully engulfed into a flood plain placing a large burden to homeowners with extreme insurance costs and impacts to the housing market. Other sierra county towns affected by the FEMA designation include Sierra Brooks, Sattley, and Calpine. The Sierra County Board of supervisors will be reviewing the FEMA preliminary flood insurance rate maps and flood insurance study today as item 10B on the boards agenda. There will be a discussion to review the maps, and look into the appeal and comment process. Updates will be shred as the meeting concludes. Visit sierracounty.ca.gov for the full agenda.
