Caltrans will be helping improve the environment as well as help Ca achieve its carbon neutrality goal by 2045. They aim to do so by advancing the use of Portland limestone cement (PLC). With its use Caltrans will be able to generate less carbon dioxide with the same high performance standards as traditional cement. Switching to the low carbon cement can reduce Caltrans emissions by 28,000 tons a year, the same as removing 6,000 cars off the road. Research testing the use of PLC was conducted at Oregon State University.
