If you have an elder in your life that is still on the road the California Highway Patrol is recognizing this week as Older Driver Awareness Week. The CHP, in partnership with the American occupational Therapy Association want to remind the roads most experienced drivers that as we age, slower reaction times, night blindness, and pain and stiffness have a big impact on driving skills. CHP’s Statewide traffic records show that drivers 65 and older were involved in nearly 500 fatal crashes in the state last year. To help you identify senior safe driving skills the CHP has a free two hour Age Well, Drive Smart course to help seniors drive safely for as long as possible. You or that senior in your life can learn at the course how to sharpen your driving skills, refresh what you know about the rules of the road, and learn how to adjust to typical age related changes. You or a senior driver in your life can attend the course by contacting the Susanville CHP at 252-1800.
