Governor Newsom after stating California needs to do more and better to encourage vaccinations against COVID, announced California Schools will now require the COVID vaccination in addition to the current 10 vaccines already mandated to enter the school system. This will happen after full approval by the FDA. It will begin in a 2 phase roll out, with full FDA approval of the vaccine expected to happen as early as November. Students in grades 7 to 12 will be required to have the vaccine for in person learning. This is expected to happen as soon as the next school term, January 1st or July 1st, whichever comes first. All school staff will also be included in the phase one roll out to be fully vaccinated. Phase two will include vaccination requirements for students in grades K to 6 once fully approved by the FDA. Medical, personal and religious exceptions are still an option with the requirement. So far CA has nearly 63 percent of children ages 12 to 17 already vaccinated.
