The Office of Assemblymember Heather Hadwick announces Hadwick recently visited the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office and toured the jail with Sheriff Chad Hermann. The two also toured the Chester substation and discussed possibilities for future projects and partnership opportunities, Hadwick said.

“Rural law enforcement faces unique challenges — from covering huge distances with limited staff to operating jails with tight budgets and fewer nearby services,” said Hadwick. “Making it all work takes creativity‚ partnerships and an understanding of how each piece affects the next.”

Hadwick said one of her favorite parts of the tour was the jail’s culinary program in partnership with Feather River College. Through the program, participants learn practical skills they can use when they return to their communities‚ and programs like this have helped reduce behavioral issues inside the jail, she said. “That means a better environment for both staff and those in custody.”

“Sheriff Hermann understands how these efforts all connect,” said Hadwick. “He thinks outside the box‚ builds strong partnerships and stretches every dollar to get the most for his community. Thank you to him and his team for their hard work and for showing me both the challenges and the good things happening in Plumas County!”
