Lassen County Animal Shelter has reached No-Kill status through Best Friends Animal Society, achieving a 95% save rate. This milestone reflects months of effort, changes, and community support.
The shelter partnered with Thompson Peak Veterinary Clinic to spay and neuter puppies and kittens before adoption. This step helped more young animals find homes locally instead of relying on rescue placements.
Rescue groups like SPCA of Northern Nevada, High Sierra Animal Rescue, Pawsibilities, The Biggest Little Cat Rescue, and Boxers and Buddies played key roles. Local organizations and media, including Your Local Pet Station, Lassen Humane Society, Lassennews.com, Lassen County Times, and Susanvillestuff.com, also contributed.
From January through early October, the shelter took in 525 animals, each one needing care and a chance. Staff faced long days and ongoing challenges but stayed committed to the animals.
The shelter launched its official Facebook page to share stories and updates with the community. This achievement marks progress, not an endpoint. The team will continue building partnerships and supporting animals in need.
Lassen County residents can take pride in this success and continue helping by adopting, donating, or spreading the word.
