SIERRA COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE – PACIFIC CREST TRAIL RESCUE

The Sierra County Sheriff’s Office received notification from the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) State Warning Center regarding the activation of a Garmin SOS device reporting a medical emergency along the Pacific Crest Trail in eastern Sierra County.

Sierra County Search and Rescue personnel, along with U.S. Forest Service Tahoe Engine 362, began making their way toward the subject’s remote location while a CareFlight helicopter responded from Truckee.

CareFlight was able to land near the subject’s location along the PCT, provide assistance, and airlift the patient directly from the trail to a hospital in Truckee for medical treatment.

The Sierra County Sheriff’s Office and Search and Rescue would like to thank all responding agencies and personnel for their assistance, including the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office RAVEN helicopter, which was placed on standby in the event a hoist rescue became necessary.
