Fatal Collision on Highway 395 Claims Life of 34 Year Old Herlong Resident

A 34-year-old Herlong resident was killed late Thursday afternoon following a two-vehicle collision on Highway 395 north of Hall Road in Lassen County, according to a California Highway Patrol release.

The crash occurred around 5:07 p.m. on October 8. Investigators report that the driver of a red 2008 Toyota Prius was traveling northbound when he failed to negotiate a curve, crossing into the southbound lane and colliding with a white 2024 Chevrolet 3500 HD pickup.

The driver of the Prius sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is currently being withheld pending notification of next of kin and official release by the coroner’s office.

The occupants of the Chevrolet pickup, driver Jorge Zepeda-Alvarez, 37, of Reno, Nevada, and passenger Juan Rodriquez-Garcia, 27, of Lamont, California, were both transported to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

CHP Officer Vial is leading the ongoing investigation. Authorities have not yet determined if alcohol, drugs, or distracted driving contributed to the collision.
