Modoc National Forest fire officials are planning multiple prescribed fires this fall. These prescribed fires are implemented to help manage healthier forests, and to help protect local communities, infrastructure and natural resources from wildfires.
Lava RX 200 acres Big Valley Ranger District.
Rush RX 1055 acres Big Valley Ranger District
Mowitz RX 4,134 acres Devil’s Garden Ranger District.
Washington Mtn RX 1,777 acres Devil’s Garden Ranger District
We estimate this work to continue throughout the season as weather conditions allow. Fire officials encourage residents and visitors to avoid areas where prescribed fires are being conducted for firefighters and public safety. Watch for warning signs along roads near all prescribed fire areas before and during burns. Smoke may be visible from roadways and local communities for several days after ignitions. The Forest will notify county emergency management officials when the burning begins.
When driving in prescribed burn areas, slow down and turn on your headlights when you encounter smoke on the roadway.
