Feather River College Athletics announces the annual FRC Rodeo is set for Oct. 1 through 3 at the Plumas-Sierra County Fairgrounds. Festivities include a kickoff tri-tip dinner Sept. 30 at 6 p.m. at the fairgrounds. This year, the event also includes mutton busting for the first time.
The college invites the community to gather to watch rodeo teams from the West Coast Region showcase their talent in the arena. The event features food and fun for the whole family. Competitions include:
- Saddle bronc riding
- Bareback riding
- Bull riding
- Tie-down roping
- Steer wrestling
- Team roping
- Barrel racing
- Breakaway roping
- Goat tying
The rodeo begins Thursday, Oct. 1, at 5:30 p.m. with a performance with a Tough Enough to Wear Pink theme. On Friday, Oct. 2, slack competitions begin at 8 a.m., with a performance at 5:30 p.m. The same schedule repeats Saturday, Oct. 3.
Mutton busting
Mutton busting is set for Oct. 2 and 3 at the Plumas-Sierra County Fairgrounds, during the FRC Rodeo. In this event, children between the ages of 3 and 6, who do not exceed 60 pounds, compete to ride sheep.
The event welcomes 15 competitors each day, on a first-come, first-served basis. The competition begins at 5 p.m. each day, with competitors meeting at 4:45 at the merchandise booth.
The entry fee is $40 and competitors must wear a helmet and vest. A buckle will be awarded to each day’s winner.
Registration is available online. Families must also being hard copies of required documents to the competition.
