Feather River College Women’s Volleyball recorded three consecutive sweeps before pushing Fresno City College to five sets in the championship match to earn second place at the Delta Classic.
The Golden Eagles opened the tournament Friday with a 25–16, 25–12, 25–12 victory over Santa Rosa. Feather River followed with another straight-set win over American River, 25–18, 25–16, 25–13.
FRC advanced to the championship match Saturday by defeating San Mateo, 25–16, 25–20, 25–21. The Golden Eagles then battled Fresno through a closely contested five-set final, falling 21–25, 25–22, 17–25, 30–28, 15–17.
Sophomore outside hitter Carol Manu of San Francisco led Feather River with 65 kills, 35 digs and six service aces during the tournament. Manu delivered 31 kills in the championship match and was named to the Delta Classic All-Tournament Team.
Sophomore middle blocker Shelby Nussle of Quincy also earned all-tournament honors after finishing the weekend with 44 kills, a .438 hitting percentage and 13 total blocks. Nussle contributed 16 kills while hitting .333 against Fresno in the final.
Sophomore libero Avary Arment of Bend, Oregon, anchored the back row with 52 digs and nine service aces. Sophomore middle blocker Madison Millanes of Chico added 22 kills, 10 blocks and seven aces across the four matches.
Feather River finished the Delta Classic with a 3–1 tournament record and has since improved to 13–1 overall.
The Golden Eagles return to action Wednesday, Sept. 30, at the West Valley Tri. Feather River will face Monterey Peninsula at 4 p.m. and West Valley at 6 p.m.
