Feather River College women’s soccer opened its home schedule Friday with a 2-1 victory over Merced College, getting goals from Carmen Damian and Saydi Reyes.
Damian, a freshman midfielder from Reno, Nev., gave the Golden Eagles an early lead in the 21st minute, scoring unassisted. She later assisted on Reyes’ go-ahead goal in the 46th minute, finishing the afternoon with a goal and an assist.
Reyes, also from Reno, Nev., put Feather River back in front early in the second half, finishing a pass from Damian to make it 2-1. Reyes previously earned a spot on the El Salvador U-17 women’s national team.
The Golden Eagles created plenty of opportunities throughout the match, putting 10 shots on goal. Colby Hobson led the attack with four shots on target, while goalkeeper Flor Lopez turned aside six of Merced’s seven shots on goal to preserve the victory.
The win gives Feather River its first victory of the season after opening the year with consecutive 1-1 draws.
The Golden Eagles hit the road today, Tuesday, Sept. 8, traveling to Las Positas for a 3 p.m. match.
FRC will then return home on Friday, Sept. 11, to host Sacramento City College at noon.
