According to a newsletter from Assemblywoman Heather Hadwick, earlier this week‚ ACR 162 passed‚ bringing us one step closer to permanently honoring our friend‚ the late Congressman Doug LaMalfa‚ with the Congressman Doug LaMalfa Memorial Highway.

According to CalMatters, “This measure would designate a specified portion of Highway 99 in Butte County as the Congressman Doug LaMalfa Memorial Highway. The measure would request that the Department of Transportation determine the cost of appropriate signs showing this special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate sources sufficient to cover the cost, to erect those signs.

Hadwick wrote, this resolution was originally authored by my friend‚ Congressman James Gallagher‚ while he was serving in the State Assembly. When James was elected to Congress to complete Doug’s term‚ I was incredibly honored when he asked me to carry ACR 162 forward and help see this tribute through.
Doug loved Northern California. He loved our rural communities‚ our way of life and most of all‚ the people he had the privilege of representing. His loss is still deeply felt by so many of us who knew him‚ worked alongside him‚ and called him a friend.
This memorial highway will be a lasting tribute to Doug and his lifetime of service to the North State — along the very roads and through the communities he cared so deeply about.
I am grateful to James for beginning this effort and for trusting me to help carry it across the finish line. It was an honor to stand on the Assembly Floor earlier this week and share a few words about our friend and his incredible legacy.
Doug always showed up for Northern California. I hope this is one small way Northern California can always remember him.
