An officer-involved shooting is currently under investigation in a remote area of Modoc County following a reported burglary and fight earlier today.
According to a press release from the Modoc County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded Monday, August 24th, after a reporting party stated they were involved in a physical altercation with a suspect during a burglary in progress. The caller suffered a laceration to their hand during the fight.
Reports indicated the suspect was armed with knives and carrying a BB gun.
When law enforcement arrived on scene, an officer-involved shooting occurred. The suspect sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was airlifted to an out-of-the-area medical facility for treatment.
Officials say the names of the reporting party, the suspect, and the involved officers are being withheld at this time due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.
The Shasta County District Attorney’s Office Bureau of Investigations has taken over the investigation into the incident.
