Lassen Municipal Utility District (LMUD), in partnership with the Lassen County Air Pollution Control District (APCD), is moving forward with a project to revitalize the parking lot located at 50 N. Gay St., in the Historic Uptown District of Susanville. The project, which includes the installation of multiple electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, will expand public EV charging access while also supporting economic activity in Historic Uptown Susanville.
The estimated cost of the project is $1.2 million and will be funded primarily by revenue LMUD received from California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) Program and a $300,000 Carl Moyer Program grant from the Lassen County Air Pollution Control District. Earlier this year, LMUD accepted approximately $883,000 in LCFS funding earmarked for EV charging infrastructure, allowing the district to begin planning and design work for the project.
The infrastructure proposal and quote were approved by the LMUD Board of Directors during its July 28 meeting.
“This project is going to reinvigorate Uptown Susanville,” said Jess Urionaguena, LMUD Board President. “The fact that our staff was able to secure outside funding makes this a win-win for our ratepayers and the entire community. I believe these chargers will attract visitors, generate revenue for the district, and support uptown businesses.”
During its August 11 meeting, the Lassen County APCD Board of Directors voted unanimously to award the $300,000 grant.
“We are proud to partner with LMUD on this project and invest in infrastructure that benefits our community,” said Curtis Bortle, Vice Chair of the Lassen County Air Pollution Control District Board. “These EV charging stations will enhance Historic Uptown Susanville, support local economic activity, and provide an additional public resource for residents and visitors.”
Bortle also thanked APCD staff, board members, and LMUD for their collaboration in securing funding and advancing projects that benefit Lassen County residents.
Construction is expected to begin this fall.
