The Lassen County Board of Supervisors approved a reduced rental fee for the Lassen Wrestling Association’s use of the Floral Building at the county fairgrounds during their meeting on Tuesday, August 11.

The Lassen Youth Wrestling Association (LYWA) will pay $20 per day, totaling $1,600 for the season. This fee marks a change from last year, when the board allowed the group to use the facility for free after their practice space became unavailable.

Lassen County Fair Manager Bill Payer highlighted the association’s role in the community. He said LYWA offers a safe and supportive environment for young people to build physical strength and mental toughness. He also noted the program teaches discipline, perseverance, confidence, and sportsmanship.

LYWA President Andrea Drake expressed appreciation for the board’s support. She said the group searched for affordable practice locations around Susanville but found none suitable. Drake added the association is willing to pay its fair share and contribute to the community.

Lassen County Counsel Andrew Plett recommended staff prepare a contract to finalize the rental arrangement. The board agreed and provided direction to move forward.

The Lassen Wrestling Association remains a key youth sports program in the county, fostering important life skills through wrestling.
