Lassen Municipal Utility District is warning customers to be on alert after receiving reports of scam calls from individuals falsely claiming to represent the utility.
According to LMUD, customers have reported receiving phone calls demanding immediate payment and threatening to disconnect electric service if payment is not made.
The utility emphasized that it will never ask customers to provide payment information over the phone during an unsolicited call.
Anyone who receives one of these calls is encouraged to report it by contacting LMUD at 530-257-4174. Customers who wish to pay their bill by phone should only use LMUD’s official payment line by calling that same number.
LMUD is reminding customers to be cautious of high-pressure tactics and to verify any payment requests directly with the utility before providing personal or financial information.
