Residents planning to collect firewood from the Lassen National Forest can now purchase personal-use firewood permits, either online or at local Forest Service offices.
The permits became available July 29 and will be sold through Dec. 31. Firewood permits cost $2 per cord and are sold in 10-cord increments.
For those purchasing online, permits can be obtained through the Forest Service’s ePermit system using a credit card. Permit holders must print both the permit and required wood tags before collecting firewood. Traditional in-person permit sales will continue at local Forest Service offices.
According to the Forest Service, most of the revenue from firewood permit sales is used to support the Lassen National Forest’s firewood program and Fuelwood Strategy.
