California Department of Fish and Wildlife free fishing day!  To celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday, we encourage you to take advantage of the first of two California Free Fishing Days, which coincides with July 4. On this day, you can fish in California without a fishing license.
All fishing regulations—including bag and size limits, gear restrictions, report card requirements, fishing hours, and stream closures—still apply. This year, California’s Free Fishing Days fall on July 4 and September 5. For more information, visit https://wildlife.ca.gov/Licensing/Fishing/Free-Fishing-Days.
Go out, celebrate, fish, and stay safe!
