Sierra County Sheriff update on Newman Fire: Sierra Valley, Sierra County June 19, 2026
Following last night’s incredible lightning storm, a small single-tree fire was discovered in the Sierra Valley. The fire is believed to have been caused by a lightning strike.
The U.S. Forest Service is on scene and has ordered a helicopter to assist with suppression efforts. Throughout the day, the U.S. Forest Service will also be conducting aerial reconnaissance flights to search for any additional fires that may have been started by lightning.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any signs of smoke or fire by calling 911 immediately.
