Eagle Lake Fishing Report Surface Temps Rising and Trout Bite Thriving

Great fishing continues! Surface temps holding 62/63F but expect to see them rise a bit next week. We’ve still been doing well 5-15ft deep. Smaller sized lures. Baby Simon’s in pinks & orange (nickel & copper) are producing quite well. Thomas Buoyant red/copper 1/6oz has been holding its own as has little Cleo’s & small needlefish. Small orange trolling flies have also done well. Some short lulls between bites but limits have been pretty easy to acquire. Multiple lures are working. Just stay on the smaller side and keep within the colors…when throwing the tackle box at them…rainbow & bikini needlefish have had attention as has small silver/black rapalas. Things will change up as the surface temps increase in the next few weeks. As a tip, once we hit 65/68F on the surface, things will begin to change up & notably, the first tui chub minnows are starting to hatch although, we haven’t caught a trout eating minnows just yet but we are watching & there are trout milling around the small suspended schools. (Live minnows are not allowed as a bait in Eagle Lake).
Rock piles are still producing with #10/12 burnt orange woolly buggers (olive has bagged a few for us too) …fish usually frequent the rock piles until temps hit the high 60’s so we still have some time left before that peters out. Easy to use a spinning rod & bobber 4-5 feet above the fly. Saturate before casting, twitch it on the contour & hold on.
Still have some surface algae to get thru here and there for trollers but lots of clean water & finding it hasn’t been difficult. West side from Wildcat Pt all the way up to slough pt, the middle of the lake leaning west continues to hold fish at varying depths from right on top to 25/28ft. The most active catching depth for us has been 5-14/15ft…10/12ft deep has been doing very well. This can change as we start warming up. Next trip we will play on the east side & see what happens. No need to fix it until it breaks. But changes will be coming as summer temperatures approach.
Average trout have been 2.1-3lb with a few heavier. Still some nice healthy trout coming in. Eagle Lake awaits your arrival!
