Nonprofits across the North State are getting a major funding boost this spring.

The Community Foundation of the North State announced that its McConnell Fund has awarded more than $777,000 in grants to 34 nonprofit organizations serving Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama, Trinity, and Modoc counties.

The funding will help cover infrastructure and equipment needs, including roof repairs, HVAC systems, computer upgrades, and heavy equipment replacement.

Program Officer Justine Lehman says while projects like air conditioning upgrades may not seem flashy, they can make a huge difference for rural residents who depend on community centers, libraries, and parks during extreme summer heat.

The McConnell Fund has distributed more than $15 million across the region over the past 25 years through its partnership with the The McConnell Foundation.
