The California Highway Patrol is warning people about fake text messages claiming they owe money for unpaid tickets.
Several people have reported receiving suspicious texts from unknown numbers. These messages claim the recipient has unpaid tickets, use “final notice” language, and include a payment link to avoid repercussions.
The texts are fake and part of a phishing scam. Do not click links or share any personal or financial information with unknown callers or texters. CHP does not solicit payments via text message.
Anyone who receives a call or text from someone claiming to be from CHP and requesting money should report it to local law enforcement immediately.
