Feather River College Athletics announces the Golden Eagles baseball team secured its 25th and 26th wins on April 3, head coach Terry Baumgartner’s birthday. Tanner Hail and Grady Smith combined for a 9-0 shutout in Game 1 and the Feather River offense erupted for 16 runs and 18 hits in the 16-6 nightcap to help the Golden Eagles to a doubleheader sweep of College of the Redwoods at the Eagles Nest.
FRC improved to 26-8 on the season and to 18-1 in Golden Valley Conference play. The Golden Eagles travel to College of the Siskiyous this weekend.
Hail improved to 3-2 on the season in the opener with seven shutout innings, allowing just four hits, four walks and seven strikeouts. Hail set the table for Smith to close out the game and Redwoods with two innings of one-hit work, fanning three.
Hail had plenty of support as his offense scored in each of the first six innings. They finished with nine runs and 12 hits. Nick Anderson and Jake Dahl delivered three each. Kory Chu had two hits, including an RBI triple, and Legend Lancaster had a home run in the second inning.
The second game had a different feel, as FRC clung to a 2-1 lead until busting open the contest in the fourth inning with five runs and seven more in the fifth. Carter Reilly had four hits in the game and Anderson added three more to compile a six-for-eight day with eight runs scored. Chu and Dahl had two more hits each, as did Luke Henderson.
Jack Hanna earned the win on the mound, improving to 5-1 on the season. He went five innings, gave up five hits and two earned runs and struck out four.
Feather River is now hitting .351 on the season and players are averaging 10.85 runs per contest.
