Lassen County Launches Volunteer Program to Support Animal Shelter

It might be puppy steps at this time, but an effort to help the animals at the Lassen County Animal Shelter is moving forward,

Jackie Earnshaw, of the Sit spot Canine Center, and Jaime Proia and Katie Cuypers, of the Lassen County Animal Shelter, and one good looking dog joined Lassen County District 5 Supervisor Jason Ingram last week in an effort to create a group of volunteers to help solve the issues at the Lassen County Animal Shelter.

First, Ingram hopes to attract a group of volunteers who will come to the shelter and just spend some time socializing with the animals, taking them for walks and playtime, calming the animals who find themselves in a strange and scary environment and ultimately making them more adoptable.

Once that’s accomplished, Ingram hopes to create another group of volunteers who are willing to foster an animal until it can be adopted to reduce the overcrowding at the shelter.

Ingram said the first step in the process remains obtaining a waiver written by Lassen County Counsel that would release the county from any liability should an issue arise with the volunteers.

Ingram pressed county counsel for the waiver at today’s Lassen County Board of Supervisors meeting.

Earnshaw has agreed to serve as the volunteer coordinator. If you’re interested in volunteering, call Earnshaw at (530) 257-3161,
