Beginning Thursday, March 19, 2026, the CAL FIRE Lassen-Modoc Unit will conduct an understory burn covering approximately 3-5 acres along Paiute Lane, north of Susanville near Susanville Ranch Park.
Initial fuel reduction treatments implemented by the Lassen Fire Safe Council prepared the area for this first-entry burn, which is part ofa multi-year fuels reduction and prescribed fire project. Ignitions will occur only when weather and fuel conditions are favorable to ensure a safe, low-intensity bum.
Smoke will be visible in the Susanville area, primarily to the north, during burn operations.
There is no need to report this smoke to 911.
CAL FIRE uses prescribed fire as a critical tool to reduce hazardous fuels, improve ecosystem health, and enhance public safety.
