Caltrans is sighting a serious issue affecting our roads, workers, and environment.
Caltrans District 2 is seeing an alarming increase in littering along our highways — including human waste.
Currently, the district is paying approximately $9,000 every 90 days for a specialized contractor to remove this material along Interstate 5 from the Oregon border to Corning. During the most recent cleanup, crews collected NINE 55-gallon barrels filled with human waste.
This unacceptable issue creates unnecessary exposure to hazardous waste, putting our employees at risk, harming wildlife, and threatening waterways.
We’re asking for your help:
👉 Please properly dispose of all litter and waste.
👉 Do not leave trash or human waste along roadways or in waterways.
Together, we can protect our workers, our environment, and the communities we all share
