Caltrans is sighting a serious issue affecting our roads, workers, and environment

Caltrans District 2 is seeing an alarming increase in littering along our highways — including human waste.

Currently, the district is paying approximately $9,000 every 90 days for a specialized contractor to remove this material along Interstate 5 from the Oregon border to Corning. During the most recent cleanup, crews collected NINE 55-gallon barrels filled with human waste.

This unacceptable issue creates unnecessary exposure to hazardous waste, putting our employees at risk, harming wildlife, and threatening waterways.

Do not leave trash or human waste along roadways or in waterways.
