Last night acting Susanville Fire Department Assistant Chief Myers awarded the 2025 Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2381, Firefighter of the Year award to Firefighter Shasta LeRoy.
Firefighter LeRoy began her service with us as a seasonal firefighter. During that time she demonstrated a strong work ethic, willingness to step up, and the confidence to take charge and make decisions when her crew needed leadership. When the season ended, we were fortunate she chose to continue serving by joining our Volunteer ranks further demonstrating her commitment to our team and to the community we serve.
When the opportunity arose, she applied for a career firefighter position with the city. A position as a probationary firefighter, on its own, is a full-time endeavor; 48 hour shifts, overtime, mandatory training, and emergency call backs which can cause sizable disruptions in a persons life. Regardless, firefighter LeRoy made time to continue to attend outside classes, complete her firefighter 1 certification, and obtain her Associates Degree in Fire Technology, all without skipping a beat.
Still today, she continually seeks opportunities to learn, grow, and take on new responsibilities. Whether through additional training or stepping into challenges; her growth, dedication, professionalism and positive attitude make her a role model for all firefighters and it is a honor to recognize her as firefighter of the year!
Congratulations Shasta!
Thank you to our local American Legion & VFW for honoring our First Responders!
