The Plumas County Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCo) has officially approved the consolidation of the Crescent Mills Fire Protection District (CMFPD) with the Indian Valley Community Services District (IVCSD). The unanimous decision was signed on August 1.
2025 and marks a significant step towards streamlining emergency services in Indian Valley.

The consolidation finalizes the process started by LAFCo on Sept. 20, 2024 and includes the transfer of ownership and operation of the two fire stations located in Crescent Mills and Indian Falls, along with all related equipment and apparatus, to IVCSD. The consolidation also includes the transfer of property tax revenue, previously authorized assessments, and the associated fund balance.
On Oct. 14, 2025, the Indian Valley Fire Department symbolically cut the locks at both stations, signifying a new chapter for fire services in the area. The department will now begin a full inventory of all transferred equipment. Preliminary assessments suggest that most CMFD apparatus will be deemed non-repairable due to age or condition. To ensure improved service and faster response times, Indian Valley Fire has announced that Engine 7124 and Support Unit 7681 will be reassigned from the Greenville station to Crescent Mills. This strategic
relocation will place key resources closer to the heartof the coverage area.
The consolidation aims to enhance efficiency, improve emergency response, and better serve the residents
of Indian Valley.
