The South East Gateway project in Susanville is now complete, marking the culmination of nearly a decade of planning and development. Initiated in 2013, the city led the project through environmental review, design, and construction, partnering with Caltrans and contracting REY Engineers, Inc. for design and St. Rhodes for construction.

Funded by the Lassen County Transportation Commission’s Regional Improvement Program using local transportation funds, this $2.5 million investment improved Main Street without diverting resources from other essential services.

Key upgrades include new sidewalks along both sides of Main Street from Riverside Drive Extension to Fairgrounds Road, decorative street lighting, benches, trash receptacles, and enhanced drainage. The project delivers continuous pedestrian pathways in line with the city’s general plan, enhancing safety and accessibility for residents and visitors alike.

City Manager Dan Newton expressed gratitude to Caltrans and highlighted the project’s role in fulfilling the city’s long-term goal of creating a safer, more connected corridor on Main Street. The completion reflects years of local investment, cooperation, and commitment to improving infrastructure and community safety.
