Lassen County is moving forward with a major technology upgrade, approving contracts this week for new computer systems and online permit tracking software.

The Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to authorize the purchase of up to $200,000 in Dell computers as part of a system-wide transition from Windows 10 to Windows 11. The purchase will be split across two budget cycles.

In addition, the county approved a three-year contract with Granicus for SmartGov licensing, a platform that allows for online permit tracking and GIS mapping. The deal, valued at just over $57,000, runs through 2028.

Planning and Building Services Director Gaylon Norwood noted that the system will improve permit processing for residents and businesses.

The moves reflect a broader push by county agencies to streamline services and bolster cybersecurity as reliance on digital platforms grows.
