Firefighters continue to make progress in containing the Green Fire, which has now burned 19,022 acres since it began on July 1. According to California Team 3, the fire is currently 95% contained as of Friday morning.
Officials say that improved weather conditions have helped crews accelerate suppression repair efforts. Containment perimeters have held steady, with no changes for several days.
Firefighters received a morale boost on Friday when Prescription Pets Therapy Dogs visited the command post at Shasta Lake. These visits support mental health, ensuring firefighters remain focused and safe on the fire.
California Complex Incident Management Team 3 is set to transition management of the fire to the Shasta-Trinity National Forest Type 3 organization Saturday evening.
The fire activity remains low, with only smoldering occurring well within its perimeter. While the area is becoming warmer and drier, vegetation is not as dry as it was earlier in July.
Fire officials added that thunderstorms are expected to develop Friday, with a 30% chance near the fire area. The likelihood of storms will decrease to 10% on Saturday, with another wave anticipated on Sunday as tropical moisture moves in.
