The statewide direct primary election nears and candidates will have until March 11th to declare their candidacy, giving a few more weeks for new candidates to emerge. Several seats are up for re-election this year including three on the Susanville city council with each term in office lasting four years. Lassen County will also have two seats on the Board of Supervisors both District 3 and District 5. The term of office is also four years that begins on Jan. 2 of next year. Other county offices up for election include the Lassen County Assessor; Auditor; District Attorney; Clerk/Recorder/ and Registrar of Voters; Sheriff/Coroner; Superintendent of Schools; and the Treasurer/Tax Collector. You will also be able to vote for state and district offices this election. Those include Governor; Lieutenant Governor; Secretary of State; Controller; Treasurer; Attorney General; Insurance Commissioner; Superintendent of Public Instruction; Members of the State Board of Equalization, 1st District full term Senator and partial unexpired term senator; as well as Representatives to the Congress; and the State Assembly, 1st District seat. The direct primary election will be held June 7th. Your last day to register to vote for the election is May 23rd.
