As Election Day approaches on November 5, California voters are being reminded that the last day to register to vote is quickly approaching. With the voter registration deadline set for October 21, residents have just a few more weeks to ensure their voices are heard in this year’s election.

Eligible Californians can register to vote online, by mail, or in person. Online registration is available through the California Secretary of State’s website and must be completed by 11:59 p.m. on October 21. Mailed registrations must be postmarked by the same date, and in-person registration can be completed at any county elections office or the Department of Motor Vehicles.

For those who miss the October 21 deadline, California offers Conditional Voter Registration, also known as “Same-Day” registration. This allows residents to register and vote provisionally at any polling place, vote center, or county elections office up to and including Election Day.

This year’s election includes several key local measures. Plumas County voters in addition to special district elections will vote on Measure D, as proposed by the board of supervisors for voter approval to implement a 3/4% special transaction and use tax. The revenue from this tax will be dedicated exclusively to funding public safety services through the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office. Approval requires a two-thirds majority vote.

In Lassen, there are two measures before voters, Measure V: A proposed 1% sales tax increase dedicated to funding public safety services, including law enforcement and emergency response.

Measure W, by the Shaffer school district, seeks bond approval to provide financing for specific types of school facility projects. These include constructing or renovating gymnasiums, classrooms, restrooms, and other facilities; updating parking lots for safety; repairing or replacing roofs, HVAC, and plumbing systems; enhancing technology infrastructure; and making health, safety, and accessibility improvements. Additionally, it covers upgrading outdoor areas like playgrounds and fields with new surfaces, lighting, and landscaping.

Voters can check their registration status, update their information, and find their polling place on the California Secretary of State’s website.
