Sierra Valley Nature Center
Beckwourth

On Saturday, November 16, 2024, 2:30-4:00 pm PST, John Muir Laws will be hosted at the new beautiful Sierra Valley Nature Center in Beckwourth, California, to celebrate the publication of his new book, The Laws Field Guide to Sierra Birds, with a talk, reception, and book signing.

A principal innovator in the global nature journaling movement, Laws is the award-winning author of several books, including the hugely popular The Laws Field Guide to the Sierra Nevada. Featuring all new illustrations of more than 200 species, The Laws Field Guide to Sierra Birds is great for novice and advanced birders alike, and it makes a wonderful gift for bird lovers and nature enthusiasts.

Co-sponsored by Wild Wonder Foundation, Feather River Land Trust, and Heyday Books, this event is a fundraiser for a new short documentary created by the Wild Wonder Foundation about an inspiring outdoor education program in Plumas County, California, in which nature and nature journaling are an integral part of school for every child in every grade in every school in the district. The goal of the film is to help inspire others to create similar programs across the U.S. and around the world. Plus, there’s a beautiful connection—all fifth graders in Plumas County use Laws’ Sierra Birds book in their year-long focus on the birds of the region.
