The Almanor Foundation announces that Big Bopper Bash Round 2 will be held June 20 at Rogers Field, Hangar F1, from 5 to 9 p.m. Community members are invited to “put on their blue suede shoes and enjoy a nostalgic evening of the 1950s when life was a bit simpler,” say organizers.

Katherine Sansone, event chair and TAF board member, said that last year’s event had to be cancelled due to the Park Fire, which closed highways 32 and 36. However, she said organizers and participants are eagerly anticipating Round 2.

Dinner will provide “a taste of Almanor,” featuring 11 local restaurants serving some of their favorites. Organizers promise a decadent dessert buffet that will include ice cream treats such as 50/50 bars, Nutty Buddy bars and fudgsicles. A menu of cocktails including the specialty drink of the evening, called a paper airplane, will be available as will wine and beer.

The dance begin at 7 p.m. with tunes played by the Kool Shifters covering everything from Little Richard to Elvis. “There may even be a spotlight dance or two reminiscent of Dick Clark’s ‘American Bandstand,’” said Sansone. A silent auction will also be held.

Costumes — poodle skirts, pony tails and ducktails — are encouraged.

Event proceeds support The Almanor Foundation in its mission of serving Plumas County. More information is available at https://almanorfoundation.org/big-bopper-bash/
